Our Burning PlanetCarbon dioxide emissions have risen steadily over the years. The excess of carbon dioxide, and other gases, in the atmosphere have formed a kind of insulation blanket. this blanket traps the heat from the sun inside our atmosphere which heats up our earth.
There is carbon in everything living. Carbon is released into the atmosphere in multiple ways, it is then reabsorbed in to trees animals and the oceans this is called the carbon cycle. As you can see from this diagram there is a short term cycle and a long term cycle. The short term cycle is between the animals and plants (land and sea) because it renews its self quickly. The long term cycle is when dead organisms decompose and fossilize, it takes millions of years to form the fossil fuels and minutes to burn them this unbalances the cycle because more carbon is being released than is being absorbed that is why fossil fuels are non-renewable.
